You may have heard a lot of buzz about Tellington TTouch® among animal lovers. You may be intrigued and you certainly may have questions, such as:

  • What are the origins of TTouch®?
  • How can TTouch® help our animal friends?

  • How are TTouch® practitioners certified?

What are the origins of TTouch®?

Tellington TTouch® was developed by internationally recognized animal expert, Linda Tellington-Jones, PhD(Hon). It is a specialized approach to the care and training of our animal companions based on cooperation and respect. TTouch® not only offers a positive approach to training, but it can also improve performance and health. This method presents solutions to common behavioral and physical problems. It also helps establish a deeper rapport between humans and animals through increased understanding and more effective communication.

How can TTouch® help our animal friends?

We've seen great success with TTouch®, especially in the cases of abused animals who have survived traumatic situations or injuries. This method is truly gentle & caring. Animals naturally respond well to it. Some of the issues that can be addressed with TTouch® include:

  • Excessive Barking & Chewing
  • Leash Pulling
  • Jumping Up
  • Aggressive Behavior
  • Extreme Fear & Shyness
  • Resistance to Grooming
  • Excitability & Nervousness
  • Car Sickness
  • Problems Associated With Aging

TTouch® is a fabulous tool to use in shelters, rescue, etc., to quickly prepare animals for adoption and to help them cope with the stress of their new, often scary, environment. Shy, non-interactive dogs and cats can make complete turn-arounds. It helps rowdy dogs to settle and focus. It’s a miracle with the oriental breeds, and a huge help with veterinary procedures. TTouch® is a great addition to NoKill efforts. It saves lives, and helps dogs and cats become adoptable more quickly.

What exactly does a TTouch® practitioner do to my pet?

The Tellington TTouch® is a method based on circular movements of the fingers and hands all over the body. The intent of these movements is to activate the function of the cells and awaken cellular intelligence - a little like "turning on the electric lights of the body” to calm and heal.

The TTouch® is done on the entire body, and each circular TTouch® is complete within itself. Therefore it is not necessary to understand anatomy to be successful in speeding up the healing of injuries or ailments, or changing undesirable habits or behavior.

Practitioners use a combination of specific touches, lifts, and movement exercises to release tension and increase body awareness. This allows the animal to be handled without provoking typical fear responses.
With fear abated, the animal can more easily learn new and more appropriate behaviors in ways that are easy, gentle and fun. TTouch® can be used with a variety of other tools to assist the animal in experiencing self-confidence in previously frightening situations. Even the most difficult problems are often eliminated. A practitioner can apply these techniques to help your pet recover from illness or injury or simply enhance the quality of your animal's life.

How are TTouch® practitioners certified?

You will find animal owners, trainers, breeders, veterinarians, zoo personnel and shelter workers discovering the benefits of TTouch®. Becoming certified as a Tellington TTouch® Practitioner takes on average between two and three years and requires a considerable investment of time and effort. The program consists of six sessions (two or three per year), each lasting between five and six days. In addition, case studies are required and increase in challenging the practitioner’s skill level as the sessions progress. For example, the first few case studies typically require only one visit, while subsequent studies require several follow-up visits.
